I am attaching my photos for August, which I took yesterday, the 3rd
of the month.
We are still experiencing extremely dry weather. July went on record
as the driest, hottest July in 100 years! I am having to choose what
to water in the garden and what I have to allow to get by on its own.
The raspberries are suffering and although I started watering them, I
fear I waited too long - the berries are shriveling. So now I water
them just so the plants do not die and will grow back next year.
The forest fires continue to burn and more start each day from
lightning strikes. So far more than 2 million acres have burned
(about 8,100 sq km) around the state. The smoke is often very bad in
the Fairbanks area and people with respiratory problems are advised
to stay indoors. Many sporting events - especially for children -
have been cancelled due to the dense smoke.
