We continue to experience odd weather for our area, and it seems like we
have been having odd weather ever since last spring. October was one of the
warmest in Fairbanks and even stranger we did not have any significant
snowfall - until the very last day of the month. So November arrived with
snow on the ground, although only about 25-30 mm. If the snow had waited
until the first day of November, it would have been only the first October
since 1925 that had no snowfall. Very strange.
When I took the photos of my plot the air temperature was -4 C (25F) and 30
mm of snow accumulation.
Sunrise was at 8:46 am Alaska Standard Time (Daylight Savings ended early
this morning) and sunset will be at 3:51 pm for a total day length of 7
hours 40 minutes. This month we will really feel the change in the length
of daylight since over the next four weeks it will decrease so much that we
will have only about 4.5 hours of daylight per day!
