Our year started out quite mild, but by the middle of January the temperature began dropping and since then we have had more seasonal cold temperatures. Fortunately, it has stayed in the -20°C to -30°C range for most of the time and mostly during the night. We only saw one day last week when it dropped below -40°C.
However, the blue skies and fresh, light snow on the trees makes the landscape look sparklingly beautiful! And then with the moon appearing larger and brighter every evening and early morning there is just nothing to describe it.
I took photos of my SIMB plot today at 1 pm, just a few minutes before solar noon. The temperature was -25°C and the snow depth in the plot is an average of 310 mm. Our sun rose today at 9:34 am and will set at 4:38 pm, for a total amount of daylight of 7 hours and 4 minutes. That is a gain of over 3 hours since last month!
