We have had a very hot July, and not very much precipitation. The Shasta
Diaries like the hot weather, and are out in full force! The Black-eyed
Susans, which are Maryland's State Flower, are also content and fairly
drought resistant. These perennials are also not preferred by the deer and
rabbits who are always enjoying other vegetation in our yard, which
borders a wooded area. The rose bush isn't as happy as it was last month,
and it appears to have some sort of insect eating the green leaves on the
rose bush. My flower boxes are not pleased with the heat, and my hanging
flowers died. I do water the window boxes once a day, but occasionally I
forget or am not home and they have suffered as a result. The Butterfly
bush is out in full force, and we have loads of butterflies of all sorts
and lots of hummingbirds as well.
