October 2018: Pear tree [Pyrus communis] (Birne) : Such standard fruit trees as this pear tree disappear more and more. When I was young we had orchards full of such trees. They formed habitats for many birds. The owner of this tree told me it's not worth any more to collect the fruits for cidermaking but that the tree is still useful as it provides shade for the cows. The green leaves often turn completely red in October before they fall off. Notice the 2019 buds in the leaf axils!
