October 2020: Red dogwood [Cornus sanguinea] (Roter Hartriegel): This is an extraordinary shrub with green leaves in spring and summer which turn deep red in autumn. I heard that the red color was already in the leaves and gets visible as soon as the plant resorbs the chlorophyll. Some leaves turn as deep red that they appear almost black. The fruit isn't poisonous, contains a lot of vitamin C and can be used for jam.
